We have a difficulty as the cricket landscape changes: Williamson

Kane Williamson admitted that the "changing landscape" of international cricket presents a challenge to the sport in his nation but expressed optimism that New Zealand cricket will be able to overcome it. "At the moment, the terrain is not quite clear. It must be controlled, "In a one-on-one interview with Cricbuzz, the New Zealand captain revealed.

He meant by "changing landscape" the inability of some cricketers to resist succumbing to the lure of the riches from franchise-based T20 cricket around the globe. One player who has avoided the national contract is Trent Boult, and a few other athletes, including Jimmy Neesham, have also done the same.

"A few players have chosen to balance their playing time with the franchises, etc. For us, it presents a small challenge. Being a smaller playing nation is difficult, but we anticipate things getting slightly better. It is challenging to know for sure at this time because of the shifting terrain, Williamson told this publication. Gary Stead, the coach of New Zealand, has expressed a similar viewpoint.

Shouldn't players like Boult, who plays cricket, be more dedicated to the national team? Williamson answered, "That is an issue for Trent possibly. "He's decided what's best for himself and his family. We are working to adapt to and handle the changing environment. Boulet enjoys playing for New Zealand, so perhaps we'll see him in those colors more often."

Boult has the freedom to select which national obligations he fulfills because he declined the national contract, and he has chosen not to take part in the next India series.

Williamson clarified, "It is his choice. "Everybody's circumstances and obligations to their families are unique. Everyone has the right to choose for themselves. Trent is a fantastic cricket player and has been outstanding for us for a very long time. It is a loss for the team if he is not included. Despite being a world-class athlete, it always ends in defeat. It presents a chance for a few additional guys. We anticipate seeing more of him in future.

The captain continued to emphasize how despite the difficulties, New Zealand cricket thrives. We have a limited population, but the cricketers we do have are dedicated to the game and driven to improve. We do have some depth, which is wonderful. It is giving the players a chance, exposing them to international formats, and giving them a chance to excel. Our domestic competitions and high performance academies are partly to blame. An intense effort is being made to monitor the players' development.

Williamson said of the six-game India series: "It is a crucial match for New Zealand cricket, and facing India is a fantastic one. They will actually be the main focus. It is a swift transition from the World Cup. It's alright. After taking a couple of days off, the crew is eager to reunite as a team. Between November 18 and November 28, there will be three T20Is and then as many ODIs in the series.
